Fabrication, pipe work, polyurethane lining and commissioning of tanks
The No2 Tank Cell project involved the installation of a 200 tonne lead tank cell for the Perilya Broken Hill Mine Concentrator to provide an optional floatation lead cell while performing maintenance on existing lead cell banks.
The tank stand structure was fabricated from 900WB, 310UC columns and 310UB to support the tank base.
150NB Schedule 40 pipe was predominantly used for bracing.
The tank stand structure was located within the Concentrator building; therefore foundations were formed in the basement of the building.
Two levels of existing concrete floor sections were cut out to allow for egress of the tank stand and location of tank at the top floor level.
The tank was supplied in half sections due limited access for installation.
The project also involved the supply and installation of pipe work ranging from 100NB to 400NB pipe some of which was poly lined, tank stator and agitator, platforms, stairways & handrails, crawl beams fitted to existing rafters over tank services and final commissioning of the tank and pipe work.
Due to the location of the tank cell, the limited access provided contributed to the challenge of the installation stage, therefore, careful planning was required to perform the work efficiently and safely.
